Letters to My Representatives 2-3-2017

I am going to write a blog post about all the ways you can help the Resistance, but here’s a quick link to get you started if you would like to call/email/fax your reps:

It’s Time to Fight

They post daily call lists with brief overviews of the topics on hand.

Here’s today’s letter to Representative Paul Mitchell (R)-MI:

Dear Representative Mitchell,

Good morning. Just want to send you a daily reminder from your constituent:

I encourage you to strongly stand against the Extreme Vetting EO. It does not make us safer. It damages millions of people around the world as well as the US. I fully believe that our House and Senate are capable of developing policies that will protect America as well as acknowledge and foster our global economy and community. Please support any legislation that will overturn this heinous act by Trump.

Once again I would like to encourage you to NOT to repeal the ACA, but rather develop solutions to the problems that exist within it. This is something Congress has had 7+ years to address, but for partisan reasons has denied the American people. It is time for Congresspeople to act like Americans, not Republicans and Democrats.

I am disappointed you voted YES on HR7. Safe and legal abortions, and not penalizing insurance companies for paying for them, is an important part of women’s healthcare. We would do far better to encourage sex education, help provide paths to independence for mothers in poverty, and protect women from rape and domestic violence than to penalize them for an abortion. Studies have shown that abortion rates drop when these services are provided.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Austin

Here’s today’s letter to Senator Debbie Stabenow, and Senator Gary Peters will be getting a similar one as they at this point seem to have the same stance on the issues:

Dear Senator Stabenow,

Good morning! Just a few reminders today from your constituent:

Vote NO on the confirmation of Betsy DeVos. She has no experience and will be detrimental to our public school systems. More importantly she will harm our children and therefore the country as a whole.

Vote NO on Rep. Tom Price. There are too many questionable actions by him as a congressperson to make him an ethical choice for Health and Human Services.

Vote NO on Jeff Sessions. His racism and ethical and moral issues make him a dangerous choice for Attorney General.

Vote NO on Scott Pruitt. He has already demonstrated that he has little regard for the environment and this would make him an inadequate steward of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Vote NO on Steven Mnuchin. His shady dealings and predatory lending make him an inexcusable choice to head the Treasury.

Thank you for your stance against the Extreme Vetting EO. Please support any legislation to overturn this bigoted ban.

Please continue to support the ACA, and develop needed changes without repealing the much needed legislation.

I encourage you to vote NO on HR7. Safe and legal abortions, and not penalizing insurance companies for paying for them, is an important part of women’s healthcare. We would do far better to encourage sex education, help provide paths to independence for mothers in poverty, and protect women from rape and domestic violence than to penalize them for an abortion. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Austin
