Letters to My Representatives 2-9-2017

Here are my letters to my representatives for today. As I said before, please feel free to use these letters or any part of them for your own letters or phone calls. You can also go to It’s Time to Fight to find issues to write about and more information.

And be sure to check out my Resistance Happy Place page if you need a pick me up when the fight gets too much. We all need to recharge and remember why we do what we do! I’ll be adding to it periodically to keep up our stamina.

Dear Senator Stabenow,

Thank you for voting NO on Jeff Sessions. It is disappointing that so many unqualified and dangerous cabinet nominees are getting confirmed, but I appreciate your part in protecting the country.

I’d like to condemn Senator McConnell’s action to silence Senator Warren, but then allow her male colleagues to read the same letter from Mrs. King with no action. Not allowing the reading in the first place is racist. Not allowing a woman to read it, but making the exception for several men is sexist. The entire thing is outrageous.

I would like to encourage you to vote NO on Price, Mnuchin, and Pruitt for reasons I have stated in previous letters.

Please vote NO on HR634.

I find it alarming that Trump is attacking the media at every turn, and especially accusing them of covering up terrorists attacks. Please show your support to the free media by speaking out and condemning Trump’s remarks at central Command and help ensure that we will continue to have a media that is allowed to report the truth and not just what Trump wants them to.

I encourage you to sponsor or support any bill that condemns the Extreme Vetting EO.

Please continue to support the ACA and use your vote and influence to promote changes that are needed but keep the ACA from being repealed.

It is alarming that Trump was not aware he was signing an EO to appoint Bannon to the Security Council. It demonstrates he is unfit to govern, but it is more alarming that Bannon is on the Security Council at all. I encourage you to sponsor and/or support a bill that will prevent Bannon from sitting on the Security Council.

Please vote NO on HR7.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Austin

Dear Representative Mitchell,

Please vote NO on HR634.

I find it alarming that Trump is attacking the media at every turn, and especially accusing them of covering up terrorists attacks. Please show your support to the free media by speaking out and condemning Trump’s remarks at central Command and help ensure that we will continue to have a media that is allowed to report the truth and not just what Trump wants them to.

I encourage you to sponsor or support any bill that condemns the Extreme Vetting EO.

I encourage you to support needed changes to the ACA, but do not repeal it. Congress has had 7+ years to fix problems with the ACA and for partisan issues has decided not to. It’s time to support the American people, not the party.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Austin

    • From my reps? I specifically said I did not require a response (there’s a box to check when you send an email). I haven’t heard anything from my Dem. Senators, though we mostly agree on everything anyway. But my GOP Rep. has sent me 1 letter (which kind of pissed me off more because it was reasons why ACA is bad. Need to research and refute that one.) Anyway, a staffer from my GOP Rep. called the other day and I told him I didn’t need a response because I know how many letters/calls they are getting, and he said, “I respectfully beg to differ, ma’am. You’ve written 6 letters in 8 days. You DESERVE a response.” He was really sweet and sounded, I don’t know, honored (?) to talk to me? I’m not really sure how to describe it, but it felt good. I know my Rep. isn’t going to do what I ask, but I think all of Congress is overwhelmed and awed by our civic participation. We have to keep it up!
