Letters to My Representatives 2-10-2017

Here are my letters to my representatives today. If you’re reading them daily, you’ll notice a lot of repetition. And they’re a little boring. Keep in mind, we don’t need to be the next Thomas Jefferson or Alexander Hamilton. We just need to get our point across. And do it day, after day, after day . . .

Our relentless persistence and repeated letters and calls will demonstrate our continued high level of civic engagement. I said in a tweet thread that we need to make sure that Trump doesn’t change the game so much that we have nothing left to work with in four years. But this is also about changing the game on them. We need to be civically engaged at a high-level for the foreseeable future. And honestly, it is our duty to maintain  a better level of civic engagement than we have in the past. Voting is not enough.

I won’t be posting letters next week; at least on Monday and Tuesday. We’ll see about the rest of the week. But I’ll be back Monday. Please keep writing your own letters and making calls. Visit It’s Time to Fight for issues to contact your representatives about!

Dear Senator Stabenow,

I thank you for voting no on Tom Price and encourage you to vote NO on Mnuchin and Pruitt. Thank you for standing with the American people.

Please vote NO on HR634.

I encourage you to sponsor or support any bill that condemns the Extreme Vetting EO. A stay by the courts may not be enough. We need to send a message that we will not tolerate such actions.

I thank you for your support of the ACA and ask you to continue to support needed changes, but not repeal. One issue I know my sister-in-law suffers from having to pay for the entirety of her husband’s insulin (thousands of dollars). This, obviously, is not a choice, because he will die without it. It has become an incredible burden on them.

It is alarming that Trump was not aware he was signing an EO to appoint Bannon to the Security Council. It demonstrates he is unfit to govern, but it is more alarming that Bannon is on the Security Council at all. I encourage you to sponsor and/or support a bill that will prevent Bannon from sitting on the Security Council.

I find it alarming that Trump is attacking the media at every turn, and especially accusing them of covering up terrorists attacks. Please show your support to the free media by speaking out and condemning Trump’s remarks at central Command and help ensure that we will continue to have a media that is allowed to report the truth and not just what Trump wants them to.

I am concerned about National Security Adviser, Micheal Flynn’s, contact with Russian diplomats during the election and prior to Inauguration and the impropriety of not following protocol. While this may or may not be a legally actionable offense, it is important that we determine the severity of the incident and present standard procedures for incoming administrations. We continue to hear about suspicious ties to Russia through Trump, his campaign, and his administration and I would like investigations to take place to assure the American public that not only has no wrong doing occurred, but that our FBI and CIA will continue to ensure that no wrong doing takes place.

Thank you for your time,

Jennifer Austin

Dear Representative Mitchell,

Please vote NO on HR634.

I was dismayed to see the GOP tweet their support for the President concerning the 9th District Court’s ruling. It is not that I think the Republican Party shouldn’t support their own Republican president, or any president for that matter. It is that we need to support the checks and balances that exist in our system of government and our Constitution for a reason. I would like to see my representatives stand by the American people first, the Constitution second, and the president third.

I encourage you to sponsor or support any bill that condemns the Extreme Vetting EO. A stay by the courts may not be enough. We need to send a message that we will not tolerate such actions.

This, obviously, is not a choice, because he will die without it. It has become an incredible burden on them. But I do not support placing people with pre-existing conditions in high-risk pools. This will punish the weakest among us who need the most help. A system of insurance and health care needs boht the healthy and the sick to participate, lifting each other up.
