Letters to My Representatives 2-14-2017

I know I said I wouldn’t write letters until at least Wednesday, or maybe not the whole week. Well, I couldn’t wait that long. I really am trying to take a break, but apparently not that hard.

Here are my letters for today. A little long, but I had a lot to say. Feel free to use this as a template or use it word-for-word. The more letters/calls they get, the more they will know that we have no intention of backing off.

Dear Senator Stabenow,

I encourage you to push for a bipartisan investigation into what General Flynn knew and the actions he took during the campaign regarding Russia. The citizens of the United States need to know what he said during his conversations with the Russian ambassador regarding Russian sanctions. We also need to know how and when he lied. It is imperative that our government and the American people know not only what was said but the timeline of what happened and when he lied so it can be determined if he acted against the interests and laws of this country. And more importantly we must know what Trump knew and when. I encourage a full investigation into Trump’s ties with Russia during the campaign, now, and going forward with this administration. There is ample evidence to indicate that (Flynn and Manafort) we cannot trust this administration when it comes to Russia.

We also need an investigation into the firing of Sally Yates. Early reports indicate it was due to her refusing to support the travel ban, but this brings into question whether her report to the Trump Admin. that Flynn might be compromised was the reason, or another reason, for her dismissal.

Please support any new and/or ongoing investigations into the matters listed above.

Thank you for voting NO on Mnuchin. It is sickening that some one who engaged in predatory practices against the most vulnerable citizens is now in charge of the treasury. Though we all know that we will not be able to prevent Trump’s cabinet picks, it is important that we are taking a stand now against his corrupt, incompetent, and dangerous administration. Therefore, I encourage you to vote NO on the upcoming cabinet confirmations: Mulvaney (OMB), Pruitt (EPA) , Ross (Commerce) , Zinke (Interior) , Carson (HUD), Perry (Energy).

I would also like you and the rest of the Senate to address the issue that we are operating with an empty government. I understand that turn over with a new administration is common, but this many empty seats in the government is alarming.

I am concerned about the amount of money we, the American people, are being forced to spend so that Trump can return to Mar-a-Lago every weekend. This is unacceptable. We have the White House and Camp David for a reason and we should not be expected to pay for his lavish lifestyle just because he is accustomed to it. It is also concerning that he chose to discuss matters of national security regarding North Korea in the open. This is not appropriate for a president and he needs to be educated on the correct procedures to ensure national security.

I thank you for your continued opposition to the Extreme Vetting EO. I ask you to continue to speak out and take necessary measures to ensure that this stay on the ban remains in effect.

I am very concerned about Stephen Miller’s continued campaign to spread the lie that there has been voter fraud. There has been no evidence of this, and no evidence that would indicate an investigation is needed. More importantly, I find Miller’s remarks: “the powers of the president to protect our country are very substantial and will not be questioned.” to be the most alarming thing to date. We must take action to ensure that Trump does not in fact have unlimited powers that cannot be questioned. I encourage you to continue to stand up for the American people and protect us from totalitarianism.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Austin

I encourage you to speak out against the Extreme Vetting EO. It is very concerning to me that the GOP came out in defense of Trump against our Judiciary Branch. We have checks and balances for a reason and if Trump can over rule the Judiciary Branch he can do it to Congress too. Please back our Judiciary branch and our system of checks and balances on this issue.

Keep up the Resistance everyone! It is working. We must maintain pressure on our government, now and into the future, in order to ensure that our democracy remains intact. I plan on continuing my letter writing campaigns indefinitely. Including in 4 years if we have a Democrat or responsible Republican in the White House. Our engagement doesn’t end here!
